WHAT EXACTLY ARE THESE JEANS?
The acid wash, also known as marble, frosted or ice wash was a form of chemically bleaching jeans. It broke down the denim fibers and forced the dye to fade and bleach. Porous stones that were soaked in chlorine bleach would be tumbled in humongous washers along with the denim. This repetitive action of the stones against the denim would unevenly bleach out the jeans and create a mottled effect.

TELL ME MORE...
The acid washed jeans that are produced today aren't as loud as they used to be. The new process involved with making these jeans is that the chemicals are now sprayed on and very quickly removed. This allows for a much greater degree of control when it comes to removing color. This new method also reduces the intensity of the patterns that the chlorine would have created. High end labels such as True Religion, John Eshaya, William Rast and J Brand offer light, dark, and gray variations of this 80's jean, and if worn correctly, this style can look chic and edgy instead of outdated and obsolete.

HOW CAN I WEAR THESE JEANS WITHOUT LOOKING LIKE AN 80'S THROW BACK?
If you are thinking about experimenting with these funky jeans, it will require a little careful planning in order to pull it off. Here are some things to keep in mind:

Wear it sparingly - The effect on your jeans will already draw people's attention, so keep the rest of your outfit to a minimal. Pair it with a basic, solid colored tee, top or sweater. Add a cropped leather jacket and you're good to go.

You can still wear accessories - Even though these jeans are very eye popping, you can accessorize with a necklace, scarf, bangles or earrings . Just make sure that they are solid colored so that they don't battle with your pants.

If you have large thighs or legs - Acid wash may not be the perfect match for you as the white spots will highlight them even more. Instead, look for the more subtle styles. These have a more stone washed "broken in" feel to them.

If you have a large tummy - Try a high waisted style. This will camouflage your bulge and create a smooth plane over your belly area.

And now for the shoes - Wearing heeled gladiator booties will bring this denim style bang up to date. Additional shoes that look great are stilettos, ballet flats, and for a more edgy look, biker boots.

Fashion is cyclical and all trends come around time and again. With the return of acid washed jeans, they can be made to look more modernized when worn right. That is, without the big hair, leg warmers and fingerless gloves! So would you wear them?
